Youth Volunteer Corps of Bay City
Mallory serves as an AmeriCorps member and has helped start the Youth Volunteer Corps of Bay City. As the Program Director, Mallory creates volunteer opportunities to address community needs in Bay County and to inspire youth ages 11-18 for a lifetime commitment to service.
What is Youth Volunteer Corps?
Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) is a supervised, team-based service-learning program hosted by the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA.
What do we do?
DIVERSE. Our projects are open to youth ages 11 to 18, regardless of experience, race, socioeconomic status, gender, ability or geographic location. By the end of the experience, friendships are formed, stereotypes are invalidated, and they have become a team working together for something greater than themselves.
TEAM-BASED. Our projects bring together youth from public schools, private schools, home-school groups and others who may not normally cross paths. We give youth the opportunity to serve in teams of anywhere from three to 300 youth.
STRUCTURED. Our projects are supervised and well-planned with activities like icebreakers, team builders, and service-learning to help youth connect with peers and leaders and understand the significance of their project experience.
