7.9 billion – The number of volunteer hours donated throughout the U.S. in 2016.

2,693 – The approximate number of hours I have volunteered.
1- The number of people it takes to create social and economical change in a community.
Engaged citizens who volunteer strengthen their communities socially and economically. However, the value of volunteering is much deeper, much more fulfilling, and much more important in contributing to a vigorous and vibrant community than money can ever measure. Volunteering allows you to share your talents with others, while also giving you a personal sense of satisfaction. Volunteering also helps you develop a new appreciation and understanding of people who may differ from you: those with a disability or illness, or who have cultural, social and economical differences, or the elderly. It is also an opportunity to try something new. When people of all ages, genders, skill-sets and personalities get involved in their community, they come to better understand the world around them. They often begin to care more, learning about themselves along the way. Typically, volunteers quickly begin to realize that their gift of time can transform lives and inspire others to become involved.
Unfortunately, many youth right now do not volunteer in their community. One reason is simply because no one has ever asked them. A persistent problem is that many young adults are not familiar with ways to become more involved. Mallory's mission is to advocate for volunteerism and to educate the impact that one person can have in their community. She also serves as a resource to connect volunteers with fun, educational, and team based opportunities through the Youth Volunteer Corps of Bay City.
